Microscopy Courses

ZEISS Switzerland

The courses at ZEISS Feldbach were very well run and tailored to individual needs. I definitely recommend anyone using a ZEISS microscope or the ZEN blue software to attend.

Jessica, Scientist in Bern

Further education is key when it comes to working with microscope systems. Microscopy courses offered by ZEISS impart an understanding of the theoretical background as well as practical skills in many applications.

In these dedicated courses implemented by ZEISS Switzerland you will experience on one day a deep dive into different topics related to microscopy. The courses take place on site in Switzerland with your local trainer. In small groups you will get the maximum benefit from personal support and an intense hands-on training. The courses will be held in English language.

This spring we are offering two different courses which can be booked individually.
Upon individual request, the course content can be customized for specific applications. Alternatively, there is the possibility of an on-site training.

Benefit from the long year experience from our expert and become an expert yourself!

Course Overview

What to expect

Basics of Microscopy

April 6, 2022 | 9:30 am - 4:30 pm CEST

  • Get familiar with basic microscopy concepts and learn more about the principles of microscopy.
  • Understand how a microscope forms images of the sample depending on the contrast methods.
  • Learn how camera based images are acquired and how to interpret them.

Further Info

Content in detail:

Concepts of magnification, resolution, objectives, microscope design, geometric beampath, Koehler illumination.
Presentation of different contrast methods.
Introduction to camera technology, its image content and information.

For whom is the course suitable?

This course is tailored for beginners and no special knowledge is required.

Setup of the course:

Each theory part is followed by a dedicated practical hands-on session. The structure of the course is very flexible and interactive. We will switch back and forth between beamer presentations and hands-on on different systems.

Comprehensive Training on ZEN

April 7, 2022 | 9:30 am - 4:30 pm CEST

  • You will gain experience on multidimensional imaging with motorized microscopes.
  • Expand your knowledge on setting-up experiments (Smart Setup and Advanced Setup) and on developing focus strategies.
  • Depending on your application (biological / material) the course will be adapted.

Further Info

Content in detail:

Presentation of the software design, MTB microscope configuration, camera settings, microscope settings and experiments.
Focus on several acquisition modules (Z-Stack, time series, Tiles & Positions, extended depth of focus, autofocus, etc…).

For whom is the course suitable?

This course is tailored for people having already some knowledge of microscopy and who want to focus on the functionality of ZEN.

Setup of the course:

This course consists essentially of practical hands-on sessions. The control software of a microscope system will be shown on a beamer for presenting each software functionality and several other stand-alone systems will be used alternatively to present a wider microscope spectrum. All participants will practice on the different microscope stations (AxioImager Z2, Axioscope 7, Axiozoom v16).

Your Trainer

Julien Toquant

Julien did his PhD in Physics at the University of Basel with the main focus on nano-technology, scanning probe microscopy and nano-optics. He is working at ZEISS as imaging specialist since 2007. He is an expert in all topics related to software and especially in ZEN blue, ZEN core (with optional GxP), Confomap and Image Analysis (Intellesis, Apeer, Arivis Vision4D). Over the years he has developed a profound knowledge over the range of ZEISS systems and is well know at ZEISS for simply knowing (almost) everything.

General Information

We comply with the covid regulations of the BAG at all times and continuously adapt our safety concept.
You will receive further info two weeks prior your booked course.

  • Each course unit will be charged with 1.200 CHF.
  • Welcome breakfast, coffee break, lunch and all beverages are included as well as the usage of different ZEISS microscopes, ZEISS software and PC's.
