Microscopy Courses

ZEISS Switzerland

Further education is key when it comes to working with microscope systems. Microscopy courses offered by ZEISS impart an understanding of the theoretical background as well as practical skills in many applications.

In these dedicated courses by ZEISS Switzerland you will experience on one day a deep dive into the ZEISS Software and the basics of microscopy. They will take place on site at ZEISS Switzerland in small groups of maximum five persons so that you can benefit from personal support and an intense training.

Four different courses are offered which can be booked individually. Upon individual request, the course content can be customized for specific applications. Alternatively, there is the possibility of an on-site training.

Benefit from the long year experience from our software expert and become an expert yourself!

Course Overview

What to expect

Basics of Microscopy

October 6, 2021 | 9:30 am - 4:30 pm CEST

Learnings

  • Get familiar with basic microscopy concepts and learn more about the principles of microscopy.
  • Understand how a microscope forms images of the sample depending on the contrast methods.
  • Learn how camera based images are acquired and how to interpret them.

Further Info

Content in detail:

Concepts of magnification, resolution, objectives, microscope design, geometric beampath, Koehler illumination.
Presentation of different contrast methods.
Introduction to camera technology, its image content and information.

For whom is the course suitable?

This course is tailored for beginners and no special knowledge is required.

Setup of the course:

Each theory part is followed by a dedicated practical hands-on session. The structure of the course is very flexible and interactive. We will switch back and forth between beamer presentations and hands-on on different systems.

Comprehensive Training on ZEN blue

October 7, 2021 | 9:30 am - 4:30 pm CEST

Learnings

  • You will gain experience on multidimensional imaging with motorized microscopes.
  • Expand your knowledge on setting-up experiments (Smart Setup and Advanced Setup) and on developing focus strategies.
  • The focus will be on biological applications.

Further Info

Content in detail:

Presentation of the software design, MTB microscope configuration, camera settings, microscope settings and experiments.
Focus on several acquisition modules (Z-Stack, time series, Tiles & Positions, extended depth of focus, autofocus, etc…).

For whom is the course suitable?

This course is tailored for people having already some knowledge of microscopy and who want to focus on the functionality of ZEN blue.
ZEN blue is especially appropriate for applications in research and is designed for flexibility and complex functionality (multidimensional acquisition, automated imaging).

Setup of the course:

This course consists essentially of practical hands-on sessions. The control software of a microscope system will be shown on a beamer for presenting each software functionality and several other stand-alone systems will be used alternatively to present a wider microscope spectrum. All participants will practice on the different microscope stations (AxioImager Z2, Axioscope 7, Axiozoom v16).

Comprehensive Training on ZEN core

October 19, 2021 | 9:30 am - 4:30 pm CEST
Learnings
  • You will gain major experience on imaging modalities in ZEN core (free examination mode and job mode).
  • You will learn how to manage the archive system and the reporting of the software.
  • The focus will be on applications in Materials Science.

Further Info

Content in detail:

Software concept, MTB microscope configuration, camera settings, microscope settings, image content, archive concept, free examination mode (workbench), job mode, overview of materials analysis.

For whom is the course suitable?

This course is tailored for people having already some knowledge of microscopy and who want to focus on the functionality of ZEN core. ZEN core is especially suitable for routine applications and is designed for ease of use and simple documentation (simple workflows, quality control, GxP).

Introduction to Image Analysis in the ZEN network

October 20, 2021 | 9:30 am - 4:30 pm CEST
Learnings
  • With this course participants will be introduced to image processing and analysis solutions in ZEN.
  • They will get major experience on image handling, understanding of the image content, processing and automated analysis.
  • The content of the course will be adapted depending on the software solutions that is most suitable for the participants.

Further Info

Content in detail:

Understanding image content, image processing functions, Bio-Apps, image analysis, machine learning.
Introduction to additional analysis software solutions (like OAD macros, Apeer, Vision4D, Confomap).

For whom is the course suitable?

This course is tailored for people having already advanced knowledge of microscopy
imaging and who want to gain further knowledge on image processing and automated image analysis

Setup of the course:

Each theory part is followed by a dedicated practical hands-on session.

Your Trainer

Julien Toquant

Julien did his PhD in Physics at the University of Basel with the main focus on nano-technology, scanning probe microscopy and nano-optics. He is working at ZEISS as imaging specialist since 2007. He is an expert in all topics related to software and especially in ZEN blue, ZEN core (with optional GxP), Confomap and Image Analysis (Intellesis, Apeer, Arivis Vision4D). Over the years he has developed a profound knowledge over the range of ZEISS systems and is well know at ZEISS for simply knowing (almost) everything.
