Yeast is a beautiful model system representing a simple eukaryote, whose genome is rather easily manipulated. The separation of 4 haploid ascospores by micromanipulation is required for construction of new yeast strains with specific genetic markers. For this specific technique, Carl Zeiss has the suitable instrument: the Tetrad Microscope.
It consists of the newly developed Axio Scope.A1 and a robust and manual Tetrad Manipulator with a joystick for fine control.
The modified stage features y click stops or x and y click stops. A clearly visible x-scale on a holder for inverted Petri dishes complements the system. And the whole system for a great price!
